GTV is completing subcomponent testing on its Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) offering before handing the vehicles over to the Army-led program next May, company officials said. Engineers from GTV - a joint venture between incumbent Humvee-maker AM General and General Dynamics Land Systems - are testing the drive train and semi-active suspension on the vehicle. more

General Dynamics and AM General JLTV Team Awarded JLTV TD Contract

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. - General Tactical Vehicles (GTV), a joint venture between General Dynamics Land Systems and AM General, has been awarded a $45 million Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) 27-month Technology Demonstration (TD) contract from the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command. GTV is one of three awardees to receive TD contracts under this program.

The GTV JLTV solution will provide the U.S. Army and Marine Corps with a family of more survivable vehicles with greater protection, payload and mobility than the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV). The innovative GTV JLTV design features a robust light-weight hybrid hull, semi-active suspension system, digital cockpit, and over 95 percent common components across the entire JLTV family of vehicles. more

DoD to order JLTV prototypes in January

Senior Pentagon officials decided Dec. 5 to begin ordering prototypes in January - months earlier than expected - for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), which will replace the ubiquitous Humvee.

John Young, defense acquisition undersecretary, decided to send the program past the so-called Milestone A at a meeting of the Defense Acquisition Board. more


Deadline eased for $15 million Humvee replacement project

The deadline rush is off for designers and contractors on a $15 million project to replace the Humvee in the U.S. military vehicle fleet.

The Army and Marine Corps, which have sought up to 160,000 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles to replace the Humvee, recently backed off their stepped-up production timetable on the project. more

The General Tactical Vehicles (GTV) joint venture of General Dynamics [GD] and AM General continues to move ahead planning for the Army and Marine Corps Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program.

Joint venture engineers last week held an internal design review for their potential JLTV design as the two companies prepare for a potential late fall release of the request for proposals (RFP) with requirements for the vehicle, officials said. more

The Pentagon may be pushing production of its Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program back to 2012, but industry is moving ahead quickly.

At least seven industry teams are working on prototypes, technologies and designs to anticipate the Pentagon's wish for a utility vehicle with combat abilities: AM General and General Dynamics Land Systems, BAE Systems, Cadillac Gage, Force Protection, Lockheed Martin, Oshkosh and Protected Vehicles. more
